(online intro to:) Eyes, feet and malocclusion: early treatment beyond the teeth

Abstract:

Throughout childhood, different postural captors (eyes, vestibule, teeth, feet, fascia and viscera) intervene in the definition of the postural scheme and balance in the development of a child. The occlusal captor is key during the period of temporary and mixed dentition, so the early treatment of any malocclusion, a sign of one or more disfunctions of the masticatory system, is imposed to regulate growth and development before the pubertal peak of growth-last call of development-when the structures are labile, they respond fabulously to light forces and we achieve structural and functional rebalancing easily and more quickly. Working with aligners at this early age allows us to rehabilitate functions, stimulate development and recover the balance of the occlusal captor, thus eliminating the compensations that the rest of the captors, especially eyes and feet, have suffered as a result of malocclusion.
Lazy eyes, strabismus, varus or flat feet, spine flexions and motor and sensory alterations can be the consequence of a malocclusion and extending the gaze beyond the teeth allows us to treat the child patient in an integrative way, giving them not only a beautiful smile but favouring a healthier growth and development.
